How to Clean a Canvas Yoga Bag

Properly cleaning your canvas bag will keep it as good as new for years to come. Since the bags are dyed using natural colors, color bleeding may occur. Therefore, please be sure to follow the spot cleaning instructions below.

The way to keep you canvas yoga bag clean is by regularly dusting it and occasionally spot cleaning it.

DUST

Begin by removing any surface dust and dirt from the exterior of your canvas yoga bag with a brisk dusting. Quickly dry-dusting your bag using a clean, dry cloth is a great habit to repeat every few days.

SPOT CLEAN

A dirty or stained yoga canvas bag should spot cleaned.

You’ll need:
  • Water
  • Small Bowl
  • White or light-colored towel, sponge or rag
    • (Colored towels may bleed dye into the canvas bag, hence it’s better to use a white or light-colored towel)
  • Mild detergent (optional)
    • (Liquid laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, or Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Liquid Soap)
  • Only use detergent for stubborn stains
    Steps:
    • Fill a large bowl with cold water
    • Dip your light-colored towel, sponge or rag in the water
    • Wring the towel out completely so that it is damp
      • The towel needs to be damp but not saturated with the water so that it won’t damage the canvas
    • Blot the entire side of the bag with the damp cloth
      • NEVER rub the canvas; instead, dab it gently. This will lift out some of the stuck-on or set-in dirt.
    • For stubborn stains, add a drop of mild detergent to the wet cloth. Rub the cloth together to form lather, and then dab the strain on moist side of the canvas handbag with the foam.
    • Repeat as needed until the stains are gone
    • Then allow the bag to air dry (overnight or for roughly five to six hours) before using it
      Warnings:
      • Never use a washing machine to clean your canvas bag
      • Never soak or submerge the bag in standing water
        • Always use a small amount of cold water and blot
      • Never rub the canvas; instead dab it gently to lift stains
When you invest in a gorgeous, high-quality canvas yoga bag, it’s worth learning how (and how often) to clean it properly.

The goal of learning how to clean and care for your canvas bag is not to make it look like it’s never been used. On the contrary, the goal is to reveal a journey. The bag's unique “fades” and “imperfections” hint at the story of a life well lived— much like the yogi who carries it.
